Namaste
While I was studying for the CA Bar Exam, yoga became my escape and break time. I was a member of Planet Granite and I’d take yoga and climbing breaks to keep my sanity while studying. It worked.
With all the stress and anxiety coursing through my veins from all the material I needed to cram into my brain, yoga became a time to let go and just focus on recentering myself during a time when I felt so much pressure and fear. I honestly think that because I took those breaks during the day for exercise and meditation, I was able to stay sane and ultimately pass on my first try. The Bar Exam is not something I’d ever like to do again, but if I had to, yoga would definitely stay in my schedule as part of my study plan.
I moved to LA and work at the law firm began to take over my life. I joined a gym, but yoga wasn’t ever a priority anymore. However, whenever I find the time to practice, I love it and I’m reminded of how good it is for my mind, body, and spirit.
Style
My yoga outfit in this post is from Mika Yoga Wear and each piece is “designed for movement.” Their clothing is crafted to move with your body and hold shape when you sweat. I’m wearing their Linda Top in blackberry and Lucia Shorts in rainbow sherbert. The top has a tie which allows for a looser or tighter fit depending on how you tie it. I’m wearing an XS, which trust me, is never usually the case, but it fits because of the adjustable back. The ties on the sides of the shorts make the design unique and allows me to adjust the length. Some days you just gotta wear some bright short shorts!!
I use the Manduka PRO yoga mat to practice. I bought this when I started getting serious about yoga because I wanted to invest in a mat that would last and provide enough cushion for my poor knees (2 torn ACLs). I remember my older brother yelling at me for spending $128 on a yoga mat, but in my defense, after using it so much, it’s still in perfect shape and will last a lifetime! If you’re looking for a mat that’s lighter weight, check out the Manduka PROlite.
Stir
Since the color of the shorts is called “rainbow sherbert” and the top is in “blackberry,” I did just that by putting rainbow sherbert at the bottom of a mason jar topped with a blackberry (and blueberry) smoothie. It’s a tasty and healthy treat for a hot day, especially after a good yoga sesh.
