Go Somewhere You Feel Small
For this post, I’ve paired Japanese Soba noodles with a Kyodan loop wrap sweater. Soba is a great warm weather dish because it’s served cold. I’ve served it here with black sesame and Furikake, which is a Japanese seasoning that I love to put on otherwise bland dishes. It makes a bowl of white rice or noodles so tasty without adding anything else. This Kyodan soft and cozy gray sweater is warm enough to bundle up in when the weather starts to cool down, but breathes well enough to wear after a workout so you don’t catch a cold. It’s a loop sweater, so all you have to do is slip your arms through, twist the loop and pull it over your head (tutorial on my instagram account @stirandstyle). It’s still warm in LA, but a sweater is definitely welcome during the evenings, especially at the beach! Speaking of the beach…
Have you ever taken the time to sit out at a place that makes you feel small? That place for me is an isolated beach at night. When I’m out there looking out at the horizon and the big starry sky, it becomes crystal clear that my existence is basically irrelevant in this universe. Sounds a little depressing and dark, I know. But hear me out.
I seem to let issues and problems take over my life and more significantly, my perspective on life. One seemingly huge obstacle can quickly put a damper on my whole day making me feel like a bad day has turned into a bad life. It’s dramatic. So, when life feels overwhelming, I like to go to the beach, preferably at night so I can see all the stars in the sky. It makes me feel small. Somehow knowing that I’m small in this world makes my problems seem even smaller. The vastness of this universe brings me back to the reality that there’s so much more to life than letting my life’s obstacles blur my vision of all the blessings I am graced with.
So the next time you’re feeling down or stressed, go somewhere you feel small. Somewhere to remind you that life is more than your own meltdowns and your worries. Go there, pray, meditate, write. You’ll feel a newfound strength to face your own obstacles knowing that any problem in your world can be seen as only a spec of sand on the beach.
As always, feel free to email me or contact me to share what helps you deal with stress or ways that you’ve found to help with putting your own issues into perspective.
