“If you pour it, it’s cranberry sauce. If you slice it, it’s cranberry jelly” – Manny Delgado (Modern Family).

It’s almost Thanksgiving and there are many important questions to be answered in preparation for the big day. One of which is- will you eat fresh cranberry sauce or canned cranberry jelly with your turkey?

In my house, we’ve always had both kinds because I usually like the fresh kind and my brother likes the canned kind. He said he likes the consistency of it better. I’ll admit though, I’m happy our Thanksgiving spread has both because regardless of the can-like shape of the jelly complete with ridges and all, I still like to know it’s there in case I want some too.

It’s so simple to make your own cranberry sauce if you’re wanting to stray from the canned kind this year or need a new recipe for the fresh stuff. All you’ll need is:

4 cups of fresh cranberries
1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
orange zest
lemon zest
mint

This will only take a little over 5 minutes, so it’s worth it if you want to be fancy this year! Bring the cranberries, water, and sugar to a boil. The cranberries will start to pop and once about half of them have popped, turn the heat down to a simmer. The rest will pop. Stir in some orange and lemon zest. Pour into a bowl and top with more zest and mint.

The Style I chose for this Stir is a red floral sun dress. I know it’s Fall, but LA is still giving me the green light for summer attire and I’m hanging onto it for as long as I can. I used a yellow beaded necklace as the punch of yellow to mirror the orange and lemon zest.
